I've been an ESL teacher for almost nine years now. I have tried being an English tutor in a classroom settings through the summer and winter camps where student would fly in to the country to study English. I have worked in various online teaching companies that catered English lessons to Koreans, Japanese and Chinese students. I can still remember vividly my first interaction with a primary school student. I was hesitant because I was a fresh graduate and didn't have any teaching experiences. The only thing I got is the ability to speak English and wasn't shy to strike up small conversations. From then on, teacher English online has become my bread and butter. Little did I noticed, it became my life. Being an ESL teachers doesn't come easy. Each student has different learning styles and different levels. Plus, they have unique approach to learning English. It could be really challenging to start your day with beginners, have intermediate levels at midday and inquisitive advanced student at the end of the day. It's taxing and it requires energy and preparation. One of the trick I learn is to come to battle prepared. I always read up the lesson in advance, assess my student's learnings needs and learning styles. Then, I start to form a bond with them. I make sure that they learn something every day. I try to move one step every class towards our common goal which is to attain fluency and accuracy in speaking the language.
